Delegates receive blessing at conference on giving

We’ve all heard the saying “it’s better to give than to receive”. Well, just imagine being able to receive life-challenging teaching … about giving. Major Carolyn Harmer discovered this was the case for a group of delegates at The Salvation Army Tri-Territorial Planned Giving Conference last week.

Almost 50 Salvation Army personnel from the Australia Eastern, Australia Southern, and New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga territories gathered in Auckland for the conference. They were there to learn from Reverend Dr Brian Kluth about living a generous life.

Brian, a senior pastor from the United States, has been released by his Colorado-based church to be a “generosity minister” to the body of Christ worldwide. Complementing Brian’s teaching was Bible instruction from Auckland-based Salvationist, Coralie Bridle.

Coralie focused on the generosity of God through his infinite forgiveness, healing and redemption continually satisfying and working for us. She spoke of the generosity of Jesus through the cross and how we, as a church, impart that generosity.

Through Scripture and great story-telling, Brian taught about helping people discover God’s plan for their finances and generosity. He challenged the delegates on ways to transform their lives and glorify God as they travel on a journey of generosity.

“God wants everyone in the world to become more generous with what he has given them,” says Brian.

Throughout the conference, delegates were shown what it takes to grow a harvest of generosity in their churches, drawing on the inspiration of Bible characters to take their giving to a greater level of generosity.

On the final night of the conference, delegates were able to enjoy a cross-cultural experience at The Salvation Army’s Waitakere Corps. They participated in a Maori welcome ceremony, sampled traditional food and were entertained through song and dance.
