Finding answers at church this Easter

With Easter weekend fast approaching, we look at how different corps across the territory will be sharing the Easter story this year.

Port Stephens Corps – Newcastle & Central NSW Division

Port Stephen's Corps Officer Major Pam Robinson said she hopes people who are searching for an answer to life will discover Jesus this Easter at their services. “We’re really praying that there won’t only be people that will attend church for the first time, but that they’ll find a living hope.”

The Corps will host Divisional Commanders Majors Gavin and Wendy Watts for the weekend. They’ll be running the Good Friday and Easter Sunday services. Divisional Youth Secretaries Envoys Angela and Lucas Cairns will lead the worship throughout the weekend.

The sunrise service at Boat Harbour will be an extra opportunity for outreach, with many people from the community who attend the service sharing in the fellowship breakfast afterwards.

Townsville – Central and North QLD Division

Townsville Faithworks and Townsville Riverway Recovery Mission are looking forward to joining together for their Easter services this year.

The Good Friday service will focus on the ‘Despair of the Cross’, with the Easter Sunday service then looking at the ‘Hope of the Resurrection’. A combined church sunrise service will be held on the Sunday morning with other churches in from within Townsville.

Townsville Faithworks Corps Officer Captain Meaghan Gallagher shared her vision for this Easter season: “We’re hoping for people to find Jesus. But also, for people who already know Jesus, we want them to deepen their relationship.”

Narrabri – North NSW Division

The handful of people who make up the congregation of the Narrabri Corps will this weekend join together for two Easter services with team leaders Andrew and Grace Bate.

Their Good Friday service will explore the man that Jesus truly is, and the suffering he endured for us. Then, on Easter Sunday, they will hold a celebration for the greatest story ever told. They are hoping members of the community connected to the Corps through the welfare services will attend these services.

“We hope all those who attend our services will be touched and will see clearly just how much Jesus went through for us and why he died on the cross,” said Mrs Bate.
