“I’ve been volunteering for about 10 years. It’s my chance to give back,”

Every year for the past decade Broulee local, Tony Palise has been collecting in his local area over the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock weekend. Tony initially started volunteering as part of the Bush Fire Brigade and has never looked back.

“It’s a family affair,” says Tony, “over the years I’ve recruited my wife and children to help collect around the neighbourhood.”

Through his work with the Bush Fire Brigade and also spending time as a school counsellor Tony says he has seen the work The Salvation Army do. “The Salvos do a great job,” he says, “when I was in the Fire Brigade they were usually always among the first on the scene of an emergency and I know the work doesn’t stop there.”

Tony coordinates volunteers for the Broulee and Mossy Point area on the NSW South Coast, over the Doorknock weekend. Volunteers check in with Tony before the weekend, “it’s a bit of fun being involved,” says Tony of the community feel the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock weekend has.

“Our region certainly isn’t flushed with cash but there are very few people are aren’t willing to help.”

The doorknock collection period runs from 17 – 31 May. By volunteering your time during the Doorknock weekend you will be joining thousands of other like Tony help make a difference in our community. “We know how good of a job the Salvos do,” says Tony, “the Doorknock weekend is a good chance for us, as a community to get involved and give back.”

The Doorknock will be held over the weekend of the 25-26 May. To register as a volunteer log onto salvos.org.au/doorknock or call 13SALVOS.
