Salvation Army singers, actors, timbrelists and ministry leaders polished up on their skills at Queensland’s Performing Arts Camp (QPAS-EQUIP) from 30 June to 6 July at Alexandra Park Conference Centre on the Sunshine Coast.

The promise of having a llama at camp saw delegate numbers increase this year, with 185 students taking part. The llama plan had hoped to attract at least 165 campers, and if delegates numbers topped this, the campers had been promised the chance to feed four alpacas.

“They were a massive hit!” laughs MORE team youth leader, Nate Brown.

Equip was the theme for this year’s camp, with the intention to re-brand the conference as EQUIP-Qld in the future. “It’s all about equipping young people in ministry and mission in their own community,” says Nate.

Along with the camp’s usual electives such as brass, street dance, songwriting and drama, this year saw new electives in creative and ministry leadership areas. Creative design and worship leading were new streams as well as youth ministry leadership and children’s ministry leadership.

As well as electives, delegates also took part in life groups and encounter sessions. A concert at the end of the week saw parents and friends fill the auditorium to watch performances by campers.

“The concert shows just how effective young people can be with their gifts,” explains Nate.
