The Territorial Commander, Commissioner James Condon, sent the following message to the Territory this morning concerning the NSW bushfire emergency.

Friends,

I am always proud of how well our teams respond in times of crisis to bring the love and mercy of Jesus to those who need it most. I encourage you to support The Salvation Army in our efforts as devastating fires sweep across New South Wales.

Salvation Army Emergency Service Crews are on hand in fire affected areas, manning evacuation centres and serving meals to residents forced out of their homes and emergency service personnel. We have also launched The Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal to offer financial support to those now tasked with rebuilding their lives.

Please pray for the fire fighters working to prevent the loss of life and property across the state.

Please pray for those who are experiencing devastating loss, so that despite the devastation God’s love may shine through in the recovery efforts.

Please pray for The Salvation Army personnel and volunteers who are actively serving those in need in the following communities:

  • Lithgow
  • Bilpin
  • Springwood
  • Blackheath
  • Raymond Terrace
  • Nelson Bay
  • Picton

Please pray for the Salvo Care Line staff who offer assistance as a first point of contact and also direct those in need of ongoing support to local agencies.

The Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal will go towards the organisation's disaster relief fund with money used to support those affected during the crisis and for the long-term recovery of whole communities.

If you would like to support the Bushfire Relief Appeal please donate to The Salvation Army’s Australian Disaster Relief Fund by calling 13 SALVOS (13 72 58) or by visiting http://salvos.org.au/adrbf.

Donations can also be made over the counter at any Woolworths store or Westpac branch across Australia. Woolworths have also pledged to match dollar for dollar any donation made at their stores today and for the next two weeks.

If you, or anyone in your community needs support please call the Salvo Care Line on 1300 36 36 22.

Thank you for your support and prayers.

Commissioner James Condon
Territorial Commander
