An 80-strong choir of Salvationists, community members and The X-Factor celebrities will feature at the iconic 31st Woolworths ‘Carols in the Domain’ on 21 December.

Held in the Domain at Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens, The Salvation Army choir will perform Christmas carols along with Australian star singers, including The X Factor’s 2012 winner, Samantha Jade and 2011 finalist, Johnny Ruffo.

“There's something about Christmas time that just makes people happy. Maybe it's all the thinking about ‘peace on earth’ or ‘goodwill toward men’ or simply everyone you meet wishing you a ‘Merry Christmas’," says Ash Sellers, leader of The Salvation Army’s choir.

"Whatever it is, it's that same spirit that I look forward to about carols, 80 choir members, 30-plus musicians, countless dancers and usually a wiggle or two all coming together with no other purpose than to wish Australia the season’s greetings."

The Salvation Army’s Oasis Youth Support Network is once again the official charity of the Woolworths Carols in the Domain. All funds raised through the event’s candle bags will be donated towards fighting youth homelessness at Oasis.

The winner of The Salvation Army’s ‘Connect Through Song’ competition will also perform in front of up to 80,000 people at the event. Entrants are required to create an original music track that is based on The Salvation Army’s Christmas campaign theme, ‘Connect’.

The winner will also receive the opportunity to record their song with Sony Music Australia at its Sydney studio.

The song competition closes on 2 December at 9am, and the winner will be announced on 13 December. To enter, visit salvos.org.au/songcomp
