Mirvac employees volunteer for Salvos
Employees from real estate group Mirvac gave their time to The Salvation Army on 10 November to help improve two Aged Care Plus centres and a Salvos Store.
Around 50 volunteers were given odd jobs across the three Sydney sites as part of the company's inaugural National Community Day.
More than 730 Mirvac staff volunteered at 47 sites across Australia on the day, helping 35 not-for-profit organisations.
The Salvation Army's Montrose Aged Care Plus Centre in Sydney’s inner west was spruced up with the painting of the large dining room and some external walls of the building.
“The residents of Montrose were very pleased with the visit from Mirvac,” said the centre’s manager, Major Bruce Stoltenberg.
“They can now enjoy a bright, airy dining room and an exterior that looks inviting to all who pass by. Many thanks to the Mirvac team who did a fantastic job. A great result was achieved with maximum interest from onlookers and minimum disruption to residents and staff.”
Volunteers at the Maybanke Aged Care Plus Centre carried out small maintenance jobs, gardening, some external painting and helped set up the centre’s Christmas tree.
The Mirvac team at Tempe Salvos Store helped with sorting, tagging and hanging clothes.
Mirvac's Corporate Affairs Executive, Marie Festa, said one of the company's aims was “enriching communities” which was an “essential part of how business is done at Mirvac”.
“We recognise it’s hugely important that we give back to the communities in which we work and enhance the lives of the people who live there in any way we can,” Ms Festa said.
The Salvation Army is grateful to the generous support of the Mirvac employees who volunteered at these centres on the day.
