Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) were on hand to distribute water and food at the funeral for Australia cricketer Phillip Hughes in Macksville on Wednesday.

About 30 Salvation Army volunteers distributed more than 5000 bottles of water in addition to providing meals to the Channel Nine television crews on the day before and the day of the funeral.

North NSW Divisional SAES Coordinator Lachlan McKay said he was grateful for everyone’s hard work, particularly on the day of the funeral.

“It was probably the most intense six hours I’ve had in Emergency Services but the volunteers were fantastic,” Lachlan said.

“One of my proudest moments of the day was seeing all the services working together.”

About 50 other volunteers from the State Emergency Services, Rural Fire Services, the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association and Coca-Cola also participated.
