Direct from the TC: Salvo Care Line to close

23 February 2015

Friends,

With sadness The Salvation Army announces the closure of its 24-hour telephone counselling and referral service, Salvo Care Line as of 30th June 2015.

The Salvation Army has made this very difficult decision as a result of a proactive, in-depth and ongoing review of all its programs, structures and services.

From its inception The Salvation Army has endeavoured to support individuals and communities in areas where no or little help is being provided. Since 1983, Salvo Care Line has provided free, 24-hour telephone counselling and professional short term support to people in need.

Salvo Care Line has made a substantial impact through supporting Australians behind the scenes and in particular has served the Australian public well during times of disaster. The Salvation Army is extremely grateful to all the staff and volunteers who have given of their best as part of the Salvo Care Line team throughout the decades.

Since Salvo Care Line commenced operations other phone counselling services have entered the field as well as online counselling services adding a new dimension to this emergency help area.

In order for The Salvation Army to remain in a position to deliver other services and quality care to the Australian public well into the future, Salvo Care Line has been designated for closure. Care and support will be provided to existing clients and staff during this transition period. Clients will be directed to other service providers and staff will be offered alternative employment where applicable.

  1. The Salvo Care Line saved my life and that of my two children. I am greateful beyond words. During that stage (2007 to 2011) i was seldom able to get through on Lifeline. I dont understand why the Salvo Care Line closed when people donate so many millions and when the Salvation Army has tens of billions of dollars invested. I am so disappointed that my family and friends have decided to make donations to other Charities instead, such as Catholic Care who provide Parentline.
