Applications for the 2015 Fellows Program have opened, giving Salvation Army staff, officers and volunteers the chance to pursue their professional development aspirations.

The Fellows Program, sponsored by Aged Care Plus, is just another way you can invest in your career with The Salvation Army and share your new skills with your team and the wider Army. Successful applicants can receive up to $5,000 to fund a course, conference or research project of their choice.

Macquarie Park Team Leader Nathan Moulds was a recipient of a Fellows scholarship last year. Nathan lives in the No. 47 community house in Ivanhoe Estate, a department of housing area. Since the community house was established in 2001, The Salvation Army has begun valuable programs for the community, including an after-school homework club, English classes, school holiday programs and mothers’ playgroups.

Nathan was able to develop his training and leadership skills with Sydney Alliance, an organisation aimed at using the tools of community to make the city a better place to live.

“I joined 25 other leaders in religious, civic, union, NGO organisations to, in a sense, look at our position within our organisation and institution as leaders in our communities. Following this course, I attended additional training once a month for six months with The Sydney Alliance at their Organised Academy,” said Nathan.

“I definitely wouldn’t have been able to afford to take part in that opportunity if not for the Fellows grant, so I was very grateful for the opportunity it afforded me. It developed my own leadership skills and made me think more deeply about the work I’m doing in the community here in Ivanhoe.”

The Fellows Program Committee, comprising representatives from Booth College, Human Resources and Aged Care Plus Executives and chaired by Aged Care Plus CEO Sharon Callister, evaluates the applications.

“The Salvation Army and Aged Care Plus encourage employees to build their skills, insights, abilities and qualifications which will further the mission of the Army and develop the individual employee,” said Sharon.

Scholarships of up to $5,000 are available, with the successful recipients announced on 1 June. Applications close on 15 May. To find out more or apply, go to mySalvos.org.au/FellowsProgram2015
