The Salvation Army has launched a new web page that is designed to equip voters to engage with their local candidates ahead of the Federal Election.
Australians will go to the polls to elect a new Federal Government on 18 May.
The Make Your Voice Heard This Election web page, created by The Salvation Army Policy and Advocacy team, is designed to help voters cast their ballots wisely.
It provides information on five key issues on which the Policy and Advocacy team believes politicians can take immediate action to reduce disadvantage in Australia. They are: poverty; housing and homelessness; family violence; alcohol and other drugs; and employment.
“The Salvation Army will never tell people how they should vote,” said Jennifer Kirkaldy, the Army’s General Manager of Policy and Advocacy.
“Instead, we ask that before you vote, you get in contact with your local candidates. Ask them what they are going to do about disadvantage and inequality in Australia if they are elected.
The Make Your Voice Heard This Election web page provides everything you need to contact your local member with a few clicks of a mouse.
“Not only does asking questions help people make up their minds, it also lets our future leaders know that these issues matter; that a fair and just society matters.”
The Policy and Advocacy team is interested in the response you get from your local candidates, and has provided a form on the website that can be used to provide feedback. This information will help the team be more strategic in how it advocates for Australia’s most vulnerable people.
