Christmas testimonies: Ashleigh

Christmas testimonies: Ashleigh

I thought, ‘this is my life, that’s it. I’m going to end with this violence, there will be no help’.

– Ashleigh.

When Ashleigh Nullasamy emigrated to Sydney with her then husband and children last year, she was already trapped in a violent relationship with no-one to turn to for help.

After receiving temporary accommodation through The Salvation Army, Ashleigh reached out to God in a desperate plea for help. “I just prayed to God, ‘please save me and my kids from this awful life’,”

Two days later – Mother’s Day – she was badly beaten by her husband. But what she didn’t know at the time was that God had heard her prayer and that her life was about to change.

A Salvation Army officer discovered the domestic violence Ashleigh had been subjected to and offered to help. Ashleigh bravely agreed and with the help of the Salvos, called the police.

“That was the first day I got my freedom from my husband,” she says.

The Salvation Army housed Ashleigh and her children in crisis accommodation and she connected with a local Salvation Army church.

Ashleigh now feels loved and supported by her new family at The Salvation Army. She and her children are happy and healthy, and have hope for the future.

“Now I have freedom in my life,” says Ashleigh. “I am free to live my own way; that is, Jesus’ way.”

She says being able to share her story through The Salvation Army’s Christmas commercial has been a rewarding experience.

"It was a blessing to be able to share my story with The Salvation Army and to be able to give back to them in this way."
