Territory welcomes Messengers of Light
Family and friends welcomed the new session of cadets, the Messengers of Light, at Hurstville Salvation Army on 9 February.
Colonel Richard Munn officially welcomed the congregation, encouraging the messengers to “leave the light on” as they enter training college.
Colonel Janet Munn, who has just started her new role as the Training Principal for the School for Officer Training, prayed for the cadets from the book of Colossians.
“Be assured that from the first day we heard of you, we haven’t stopped praying for you, asking God to give you wise minds and spirits attuned to his will,” she said.
Territorial Commander Commissioner James Condon also welcomed new staff at the School for Officer Training and Booth College during the service.
Majors Peter and Kerrie Farthing have taken on the roles of Booth College Principal and Vice-Principal respectively, while Captain Carole Smith has taken on the role of Training Officer at the School for Officer Training.
There are 10 new cadets entering college this year – four couples from the Australia Eastern Territory and one couple from the Australia Southern Territory.
Throughout the service, each of the cadets gave a brief testimony, sharing their journey to officership.
Major Peter Farthing brought a message to the congregation from the book of Acts, encouraging everyone to share the story of the good news of the Gospel.
“Be Messengers of Light who tell the story,” said Major Peter.
The services concluded with the joyful singing of ‘Tell them in the east and in the west”, before Commissioner Jan Condon offered a benediction.
The cadets also had an official welcome lunch at the School for Officer Training at Booth College in Sydney on 29 January.
