Transforming lives for 30 years
Peter has worked with The Salvation Army for more than 30 years.
Peter Davy has been ministering to people through his work with The Salvation Army for 30 years.
Throughout the years, Peter’s time has been divided between working in Salvation Army Drug and Alcohol Recovery Centres and working with the community.
Since 2000, Peter has been employed as the Corps Based Transformation Ministry Coordinator at the Bonnells Bay Corps, located in the NSW Lake Macquarie district. In this role Peter, who is also the Corps Sergeant Major, works to coordinate the personal growth ministries in the corps.
“That’s a variety of ministries that is across anything that actually helps peoples lives – whether that is emotionally, spiritually or physically – to help them experience what John 10:10 calls living in the abundance of God,” says Peter.
“It might be personally running a fathers group or supporting the facilitators of the women’s program we run here.”
The strong connection between the Bonnells Bay Corps and the Dooralong Transformation Centre (previously Miracle Haven) has seen the introduction of ministries such as REACH home church, which operates a special church service for men and women who are either current or former clients of Dooralong.
“While our rehablitation programs are highly successful, not everyone is able to attend a long-term program,” says Peter.
To help these people, Peter has developed a model that enables people to find transformation while living in community.
The success of the transformation ministry model in his local corps saw Peter take on the additional role of Territorial Corps Based Transformation Ministry Consultant.
Peter runs Transformation Workshops around the territory, with the purpose of aiding corps in their investigation of transformation ministry. In a survey carried out in April 2013, approximately 50 per cent of corps and centres across the territory were using some form of transformation ministry.
Peter says that he wants to encourage corps to embrace transformation ministry so that it is expressed in all aspects of corps rather than a series of programs to fill a need.
“This then provides a culture and environment into which new people might enter that is supportive and nurturing no matter what situation they find themselves in,” says Peter.
Peter sees his work with The Salvation Army over the years as a blessing, especially through the lives of the people directly involved in the transformation programs, their families and the wider community.
“It is a privilege to be a part of this type of ministry and to be involved in it for such a length of time that we’ve been running here at Bonnells Bay,” says Peter. “It’s been a great privilege to see lives changed”.

I just would like say what champion of man you are Pete Davey. Over the past 15 years I have had many of talks with Peter. Fighting my battles with addiction. he always tells you what you need to hear or what you don't want to hear,most of the time it's want you don't want to hear , but is right very gifted Concelor he's has the gift of knowing your having a bad day or running a bit rough before you do,so blessed to have the Bonnells bay core and the team in my life.they are always there to help, I can't thank Peter and Bonnells bay core enough for the impact and growth they have shined on me,Love and miss you all glen coomber
