We are grateful for your service to the mission of The Salvation Army and appreciate the time you are taking to complete the required training. 

Depending on your position, there are different training requirements. Your manager/officer will advise you which training you need to complete. Click the dropdowns below for more information. If you have any questions or not comfortable with online training, please speak to your manager about other options.

Mandatory Training for Volunteers

This section of learning is for volunteers who do not lead or manage others or work with children and/or vulnerable people. 

General volunteers/Salvos Stores volunteers will need to complete the following: 

  • Foundational Training for Volunteers: TSA Today - Code of Conduct - WHS
  • Safeguarding@TSA 

Note: Face to face training options may be available at your site - please speak to your manager for more information.

Course Name

Description 

Foundational Training for Volunteers

Timeframe: 8 weeks from commencement

Valid: 2 years (Note: TSA Today only needs to be done once)

The Foundational Training suite consists of: 

  • TSA Today: a 20 minute general introduction to the mission of TSA
  • Code of Conduct: a 20 minute guide to TSA's culture and practice 
  • WHS: a 15 minute course outlining TSA's commitment to a safe workplace 

These three (3) modules can be completed by clicking on 'Launch Course'. You will need to enter your Salvos Workday ID, last name and select the module to begin. 

Safeguarding@TSA

Timeframe: 4 weeks from commencement

Valid: 2 years

 

Safeguarding@TSA is a national 30-minute course that provides vital information about our responsibilities for ensuring TSA is a child-safe organisation. This module can be completed by clicking on 'Launch Course'. You will need to enter your Salvos Workday ID, last name and select the module to begin. 

Safeguarding@TSA replaces the following courses:

  • Keeping Children Safe
  • Safe Salvos 

Things to note:

  • If you have previously completed any of the above 2 courses and your training is still current, you do not need to complete Safeguarding@TSA until your training has expired. 
  • Some learners may find the information in this course distressing. Please contact your line manager to discuss how you can be supported. Alternatively, you can phone 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) for 24/7 counselling or Lifeline on 13 11 14

This section is for volunteers who work with children and/or vulnerable people but do not lead or manage others. 

You play a crucial role in protecting children and vulnerable people, and the training below will equip you with what you must know. 

You will need to complete the following:

  • Safeguarding@TSA 
  • Safeguarding Principles

Safeguarding Principles Training

Timeframe: 4 weeks from commencement

Valid: 3 years

Safeguarding Principles training is owned and developed by the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF). It consists of 10 modules and provides general information about the principles of Child-safe organisations. It takes around 3 hours to complete all modules. When you click 'Launch Course' you will be directed to the ACF training page.

Getting started

  • You will need an 'enrolment key' before launching the course. Please contact your corps officer/line manager for an enrolment key if you do not have one. 

Things to note:

  • If you have completed SP3 and Safe Salvos and it is still current, you will not need to complete this until that training is expired. 
  • Some learners may find the information in this course distressing. Please contact your line manager to discuss how you can be supported. Alternatively, you can phone 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) for 24/7 counselling or Lifeline on 13 11 14

This section is for volunteers who are in leadership roles or manage others. Examples include Corps Sergeant Major, Store Managers, Program Team Leaders etc.

You will need to complete the following:

  • Safeguarding Principles 
  • Building Healthy Communities (WHS for leaders)

Building Healthy Communities (WHS for leaders)

All volunteers who lead people must watch these short videos to ensure they have the needed knowledge and information to create safe and healthy work environments. There will be three modules you'll need to complete. All three modules are available via the 'Launch Course' button below. 

1. WHS - Manual Handling (20 minutes)

To increase your awareness of hazardous manual tasks and develop your understanding of how to prevent an injury, we have developed this course.

2. Zero Tolerance - Bullying and Harassment (20 minutes)

This course has been designed to increase your awareness of what is considered bullying and occupational violence and describes your responsibilities regarding such behaviours.

3. Zero Tolerance - Discrimination and Equal Opportunity (24 minutes)

This course has been designed to provide you with an overview of our organisation's policies and your legal obligations relating to equal opportunity.
