Celebrating our diversity: Everyone belongs

In recognition of Harmony Week, 18-24 March, The Salvation Army is asking volunteers to consider sharing their cultural background with their Corps Officer or Line Manager so they can update this in their volunteer's record.

Having greater visibility over the cultural backgrounds that make up The Salvation Army will enable us to not only better celebrate our diversity but also take steps to help everyone feel included in The Army.

What is Harmony Week?

Harmony Week, endorsed by the Australian Government, recognises and celebrates our nation’s diversity, bringing together Australians from all different cultural  backgrounds. This year’s theme is ‘Everyone belongs’.

Around 45 per cent of Australians are born overseas or have at least one parent who was. Currently, our Salvation Army records indicate that we are made up of 107 different nationalities. Help us gain a greater understanding of our diversity by sharing your cultural background with your Corps Officer or Line Manager so they can update your record.

Celebrating Harmony Week

Encourage your fellow volunteers to celebrate and learn about your team’s diverse backgrounds by having a morning tea together during Harmony Week, where you share stories and food that mean something to you.
