The General & Commissioner Silvia CoxThe General & Commissioner Silvia Cox

General André Cox was born in 1954 to Salvation Army officer parents serving in Zimbabwe.  Having an English/Swiss heritage, and growing up in Africa, the UK and Switzerland, the General feels very much at home when working in different cultural settings.

It was in Switzerland where he met and married Silvia Volet before entering the International Training College in London.  They were commissioned in 1979 and returned to Switzerland where they served in corps appointments. With their three daughters they were then appointed to various headquarters roles in the Zimbabwe Territory.

Returning to the Switzerland, Austria and Hungary Territory, they served the next eight years at Territorial Headquarters in Bern.  Subsequent territorial leadership has been served in Finland and Estonia, South Africa and the United Kingdom with the Republic of Ireland.  Throughout his officership the General has deepened his belief in the inseparable link between belief and behaviour, that what we believe must also be reflected in our daily living.

Elected the 20th General of The Salvation Army on 3rd August 2013, the General shares his ministry with Commissioner Silvia Cox, who is the World President of Women's Ministries.  Along with his wife, the General has a strong sense of family. They are very proud of their daughters with their respective husbands as well as their four granddaughters.
