The Salvation Army Korean Corps celebrated its 17th birthday on 10 March 2013. This occasion was marked by the visits from the Division Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Laws and the Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries, Lieutenant-Colonel Jan Laws.

On the day, 20 soldiers were enrolled and Corps Officers Captain Lee and Captain Huh were promoted to the ranks of major.

It was a day of festivities and the service consisted of special items, including a traditional Korean fan dance performed by the Home League. The Home League also delighted those attending with a delicious luncheon afterwards.

Later that day The Salvation Army Korean Corps took part in the Holy City March. The march, which begins at Belmore Park and ends at Martin Place, is in its seventh year.

More than 1000 people from numerous nationalities and churches joined the march. As always, The Salvation Army Korean Corps’ Brass Band and the Timbrel Brigade were at the forefront.

During the march different instruments were played, including the Shofar (a ram’s horn), brass instruments, timbrels and traditional Korean instruments. This was accompanied by singing and chanting - proclaiming the word of Jesus. There were also people handing out evangelical pamphlets to spectators.

The end of the march was celebrated with a concert at Martin Place. Soloists were invited to sing the accompaniment provided by the 80-piece orchestra of musicians from various churches. People attending the concert together sang praises to God.

The coordinator of the Holy City March, Major Hwan Ki Kim, glorified God in allowing the march to be held and reminding people that we need to continually pray that the city will be a holy land of God.
