For the 12th year, Aussie World theme park on Queensland's Sunshine Cost partnered with The Salvation Army to host their annual family fun day last Thursday.

More than 450 people from disadvantaged communities on the Sunshine Coast were able to experience a ‘Winter Wonderland’ at the theme park for the day.

“We’re proud to have a partner such as The Salvation Army that can provide these things back to the community. We’re proud that we can do that here as a business on the Sunshine Coast,” said David Thompson, Aussie World General Manager.

Aussie World generously provided a Christmas lunch to all. There was a visit from Santa who gave out lollies to the children.

Captain Stuart Glover, the Caloundra Corps Officer, said those invited were families who had engaged with The Salvation Army during the year.

“Having a happy Christmas should be for everybody and this just allows some of the families to do that,” he said. “Some of the clients have done it really tough this year so just having a time where they don’t have to worry about the stresses of their life and just having a good time as a family is really important.”

Queensland rugby league greats Allan Langer and Kerrod Walters were special guests on the day. There were performances from the Maroochydore Corps brass band, and carollers and timbrellists from the Nambour Corps.

People were able to take advantage of the theme park's 30 rides, including thrill rides and water play areas, as well as other attractions.

“The Salvation Army have been very good to work with for the past 12 years. The clients are just so grateful when they come through the gates. It’s great for our staff to be able to accommodate them,” said David.
