Salvationists are being urged to spread the word about a Woolworths commitment to match customer donations to The Salvation Army Flood Appeal dollar for dollar, until the goal of $1 million is raised.

The generous announcement has come as thousands of people in Queensland and north NSW start the long recovery process after storms and floods devastated many towns and cities. Many people are still stranded as they wait for floodwaters to subside.

“Woolworths and The Salvation Army have a strong relationship and have worked together for over three years providing disaster relief to Australian communities, most recently in bushfire-ravaged areas of Tasmania,” says managing director of Woolworths supermarkets, Tjeerd Jegen.

Woolworths says the funds raised through its dollar-for-dollar commitment would provide much-needed assistance across the flood-ravaged regions.

“By matching our customers’ donations Woolworths will double the support provided to communities across flood-affected areas,” says Mr Jegen.

“If a customer adds, for example, a $25 donation to their grocery bill any time in the next week Woolies will match it, leading to a $50 total donation to the Salvos.”

Customers can donate to The Salvation Army Flood Appeal when shopping at Woolworths, either at any checkout or when ordering online.
