Legal Eagles flying high in Goodna

Michael Anglin, lawyer at Salvos Legal in Goodna.

There’s definitely something good happening in Goodna, and it’s not just in the name. Salvos Legal is soaring high as it delivers legal advice to many families and individuals in need.

Just on 12 months ago, Salvos Legal established a presence in the Ipswich suburb of Goodna and its surrounds. Initially working out of the Goodna Employment Plus office, Salvos Legal now operates from Soundpoint, The Salvation Army and Sony Foundation Youth and Community Centre on Smiths Road in Goodna, officially opened in October 2012.

The Goodna branch of Salvos Legal is managed under the watchful eye of Michael Anglin, a qualified lawyer. Michael is the son of retired Salvation Army officers and spent much of his life living in the Caribbean and New York.

At the beginning of 2012, Michael was working for a Commonwealth agency in Canberra. “Luke Geary, the managing partner of Salvos Legal, was looking for someone adventurous enough to move to Queensland, so I put my hand up”, says Michael. It is now Michael’s responsibility to expand the work of Salvos Legal in this part of the territory – something he finds extremely rewarding.

“Locating to Goodna was strategic”, says Michael. Goodna was severely affected following the floods of January 2011 and many lives had been disrupted by this devastating event. “Our initial focus was to provide pro bono legal advice to those in the community seeking advice about their insurance claims. That quickly expanded to include other legal practice areas.”

Commercial matters are referred to the Sydney office of Salvos Legal, and this supports all the work that Michael does at Goodna on a pro bono basis. The Soundpoint office at Goodna is open Monday to Friday. If Michael is not in the office, it’s more than likely he is in courtanywhere between Toowoomba, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Salvos Legal is having a positive impact on the Goodna community. The word is getting out that there is quality pro bono legal advice available at Salvos Legal. Michael says, “We are trusted and appreciated and we do good work”.

It is Michael’s hope to make the Goodna branch of Salvos Legal a household name in Queensland – one that is synonymous with a quality, holistic legal practice that meets the needs of the community. Michael believes that the purpose of Salvos Legal is a good match that aligns with his reasons for being a lawyer.

“I continue to do what brings great satisfaction – helping those who struggle against the strong legal current.” Michael is looking forward to opening other legal advice bureaus across southeast Queensland in the coming year.

Comments

  1. Michael was my first point of contact for advice with an sad an unpleasant family matter. He arranged for an in-office consultation and documents were lodged with the Federal Circuit Court as a result. Michael achieved a wonderful result for us and his professionalism, courtesy and caring nature was always evident. The matter is still ongoing through the Courts and he continues to maintain contact to keep us "in the loop". I would not hesitate to recommend Michael and his staff to anybody needing legal advice or service.

  2. Michael is an outstandingly professional/competent lawyer and person.

I am very analytical/critical and could not imagine a better lawyer for family related matters.
