Clowning around at Bethany aged care

26 March 2013

Residents of Bethany Aged Care Plus Centre are enjoying extra laughs thanks to monthly visits from a couple of clowns!

“We’re always looking at ways to keep things fresh and fun around the centre,” said centre manager Kevin Herdegen. “The residents love the clowns – they create such a buzz among residents and staff.”

Adding an extra element of fun this year, a former and current staff member of the centre began dressing up as clowns to entertain the residents.

The clowns have made just two appearances, but already Bethany residents are anticipating their next visit. The clowns usually turn up during activity times and create hilarious twists in the regular routine: “They join in activities and usually end up turning it into a comedy show. They have all the residents and staff laughing!”

For those residents unable to join in the centre’s regular activities, the clowns do room visits too.

Mr Herdegen said Bethany was committed to person-centered care in a homely environment. “We want each of our residents here to have the best possible lifestyle. For us, introducing clowns once a month has added to the resident (and staff) experience at Bethany.

“We’ve had such great feedback from everyone here. The carers love performing … I think our clowns will be around for a while!”
