The Liverpool corps building has been gutted after a fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The fire was allegedly started at the back of the building in some bins, and it quickly rose to the roof, destroying it entirely. The fire did not touch the walls and floors of the building, but there is extensive water damage due to the efforts of the fire fighters to extinguish the blaze. Thankfully, the church’s welfare building was not affected.

The church still gathered together Sunday morning on the corps site, spending time together in prayer as a church community, says church member Joel Spicer.

“We stood united and strong as a church. What the enemy meant for harm, God is going to use for good. God is bigger than this. The building is not the church. We are the church,” says Mr Spicer.

For now, in these early days, the corps will look for a temporary home for their church. They will wait to hear from insurers about whether the building can be saved. And they are hoping to turn to their local community for assistance.

“Hopefully, this will be a chance for the community to be involved and really help out. It could turn in to a bit of an outreach. We’ll be able to reach the community through this.”

The corps would like to express its thanks to those around the territory that have been praying for them at this time.

“This could be a spiritual attack from the enemy but we’re going to stand strong. We had a real emphasis on thanking Jesus and praising him, even though something bad has happened”.
