Major Brendan Nottle named Melburnian of the Year
Major Brendan Nottle (Melbourne Project 614 corps officer) was named Melburnian of the Year at a City of Melbourne awards night on 16 November.
At the prestigious Melbourne Awards ceremony held at Town Hall, Major Nottle was recognised for his service to the community, which involves overseeing The Salvation Army’s daily operations in Melbourne’s CBD with his wife Major Sandra Nottle.
‘Collectively, Melburnians are passionate about looking out for each other and caring for our most vulnerable,’ says Major Nottle. ‘The work The Salvation Army does is built on the values of compassion, hope and human dignity, and we are supported in our mission by a community with a great heart. It is a great honour and a truly humbling experience to be acknowledged for my role in promoting these values.’
Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Robert Doyle paid a special tribute to this year’s winner. ‘It is with great delight that I present this award to Brendan. His devotion to strengthening Melbourne’s social fabric is an inspiration to us all,’ he says. ‘Every week, Brendan can be found in the city giving crucial support to those in need, including meals, clothing and counselling. The dedication he brings to his work makes him a role model thoroughly deserving of this accolade.’
Now in its 11th year, the Melbourne Awards program recognises those that contribute most to the city’s success and highlights the inspirational stories and achievements of Melburnians from all walks of life. The Melburnian of the Year award is presented to an inspirational role model who has made an outstanding contribution to the city through their life and work.
