Grant opens doors in Broken Hill

The Salvation Army's Broken Hill Corps secretary Brian Jenkins, Kleenheat Gas sales manager Greg Humphries, Broken Hill community services volunteer Jo Oxlaide, Broken Hill Corps Officer Major Brenda Stace and Broken Hill community services welfare administrator Jenny Sutton.

Broken Hill Corps has received a $5000 grant from Kleenheat Gas to update their community welfare centre.

The grant will go towards creating an additional doorway to the welfare offices, providing more privacy for welfare clients, as well as a second exit for workers.

Broken Hill Corps Officer Major Brenda Stace said the current access required clients to walk through the sorting area of the family store, which is located in the same building.

“This donation allows us to make clients feel more at home in the centre (which is open two days a week). Their privacy is essential for gaining their trust and ultimately helping them get to where they need to be,” said Major Stace.

A special afternoon tea was held at the end of October to honour the donation, with local Kleenheat Gas sales manager Greg Humphries handing over the cheque.

“Kleenheat Gas is proud to provide this donation of $5000 to the Salvos in Broken Hill. This will allow them to continue assisting regional communities in need, which is very important work for the local community,” Greg said.

The grant is part of the Regional Care Services Program, which commenced in 2009 with the purpose of supporting a different regional community each month.

The program has seen more than $200,000 in cash and equipment donated to The Salvation Army across regional Australia.

Major Stace and the Broken Hill Corps would like to express their thanks to Kleenheat Gas for their support.
