Salvos Schools set to launch into classrooms

15 April 2015

In Term 2 2015, The Salvation Army will launch Salvos Schools, a national initiative matched to the Australian National Curriculum with resources to help schools connect with students on a range of social issues.

The material includes curriculum mapped lesson plans, supporting web pages, a range of additional workshops, leadership development opportunities and a fresh look including new branding.

Salvos Schools have worked directly with more than 50,000 students and hundreds of schools. The material, formerly known as THE OASIS initiative, has been adapted based on feedback from school communities to align with secondary education.

“Our foundation is based on three principles – learn, feel, act. Our hope is that students will be able to learn about social injustice in a way that meets learning outcomes, feel by developing empathy and their social conscience and act through experiences where they can bring about real change and making a lasting impact on future generation,” said Bee Orsini, Salvos Schools Co-ordinator.

Salvos Schools hopes to:

  • Increase social awareness within the young generation,
  • See a generation more equipped to seek help early,
  • Renew partnerships with schools and local Salvation Army corps and services,
  • Provide an increased, sustainable number of volunteers and members of our community as doorknock collectors, fundraisers and future donors.
