Kids in the Kitchen

Salvos Kids In The Kitchen is...

A 10-week program designed to intro­duce school-aged children (from 8–12 years of age) to cooking through hands-on demonstrations and making them feel comfortable in the kitchen while developing valuable life skills.

There is so much more to the program than just learning to cook: it’s about healthy eating and diet; it’s about numeracy and literacy; it’s about building connections with the families of these kids; it’s about providing a safe-space for the children and it’s about sharing Jesus.

• How is the program structured?
  Small groups of 4-5 participants with one leader per group. Each session is roughly 90 minutes long (including intro and demonstration)
  
  
•  How much space is required to run the program? 
  All you need is a table and power point per group and access to at least one sink.
  
  
• What equipment is required?
  All recipes require standard kitchen equipment (eg. knives, trays, microwave...) though there is variation from week to week with each new recipe. Multiples may be required when working with more than one group.
  
  
• Please Note: the opportunity for mentoring appointments with DCS is available before starting the program in your local area.
