Volunteer Toolkit for Safeguarding@TSA Training

The new national mandatory child safeguarding training Safeguarding@TSA is now live on Learn. This is a mandatory 30-minute training for ALL officers, employees, contractors and volunteers, and is an additional and complementary module to the Safeguarding Principles training that was released in October 2019. What is the training about? Safeguarding@TSA replaces mandatory child safeguarding training for the former AUE and AUS. It is specific to TSA?s national safeguarding policies and procedures, and includes how to protect children and young people, how to prevent child abuse, and how to identify child abuse and take action. For further information about Safeguarding@TSA, please refer to our FAQ sheet. <link to doc> Who needs to complete it? Safeguarding@TSA is mandatory for ALL officers, employees, contractors and volunteers. If you are an officer, employee or contractor, and you DO NOT have current Keeping Children Safe or Safe Salvos training, you will receive a Learn notification advising your training period has expired. You have 4 weeks to complete the training from the notification. For anyone who HAS NOT completed the Safeguarding Principles training, you will receive reminders for BOTH modules. If you are receiving separate reminders, you will need to complete both modules. What about Salvos Stores and Aged Care? If you are an officer, employee or volunteer working in Salvos Stores or Aged Care, and you DO NOT have current Keeping Children Safe or Safe Salvos training, you will need to complete your training from 1 September 2020. You will have 4 weeks to complete it. What about volunteers? Training for volunteers will be available through the new mySalvos Volunteer Learning Platform (VLP) from 10 August. Corps officers and managers of volunteers will need to advise their volunteers if they need to complete Safeguarding@TSA or if previous child safeguarding training is still current. More about this process can be found in the 1-page guide for managers of volunteers. Timing of training for volunteers is as follows: ? From 10 August: Active volunteers who require a WWCC for their role, and who DO NOT have current Keeping Children Safe or Safe Salvos, will need to complete Safeguarding@TSA within 4 weeks. ? From 1 September: All other active volunteers who do not have current Keeping Children Safe or Safe Salvos will need to complete Safeguarding@TSA within 4 weeks. ? Non-active volunteers: When a volunteer resumes volunteering (post-COVID-19) they will have 4 weeks to complete Safeguarding@TSA, if they do not have current Keeping Children Safe or Safe Salvos.
