The New Testament talks about how Jesus saves us in a number of ways; sacrifice, substitution, ransom, atonement, forgiveness and reconciliation. In Colossians, Paul describes Christ’s work for us as rescue. "God has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of his dear son, who forgives our sins and sets us free" (Colossians 1:13-14). This is the image that this easter pack investigates. What is it that we have been rescued from? And how did Jesus perform that rescue?

The artwork depicts Jesus defeating Satan and rescuing us from the power of sin and evil. It was created by Alex Drummond a concept artist who designs characters and environments for computer games. The artwork draws from the imagery of 1 Peter 3:19, 4:6 of Christ's descent to hades. It draws on Albrecht Dürer's Christ's Descent in Limbo and iconography that depicts Jesus rescuing people from hell with Satan bound beneath his feet. The idea was to depict this classic Christian idea in a way that would make sense in the visual language of today.
