Salvos Refugee Sponsorship Program
The Salvation Army's New Beginnings Project is a community sponsorship program for refugees, which began in Canada and is now a global movement. As Christians, we are called to love God and love our neighbours —including the “foreigners,” such as those from a refugee background. The Salvation Army is partnering with Community Refugee Sponsorship Australia (CRSA) to participate in CRISP (Community Refugee Integration and Settlement Pilot) through the New Beginnings Project. CRISP is Australia’s new refugee sponsorship program launched in mid 2022. CRSA is funded by the Commonwealth Government to deliver the CRISP around Australia.
The CRISP is inspired by the successful Canadian community refugee sponsorship program operating since the late 1970s, which has enabled more than 325,000 refugees to build a new life in Canada. Similar programs are now being implemented in around a dozen countries around the world, including the UK, US, NZ and Ireland.
Our fellow Salvos in Canada and the UK have been involved. Now it is our turn!
The New Beginnings Project provides a wonderful opportunity for your Corps or faith communities to share the love of Jesus to a refugee family (who has been recognised by UNHCR overseas and has no links or family in Australia) and support them to build a new life in your local community.
Your faith community now have an opportunity to put your love into action by welcoming and supporting a refugee family by taking part in this exciting initiative!
