This year’s theme for the Self Denial Appeal is ‘Love in Action’ and focuses on Indonesia, the Philippines and Tonga. These short videos from the Self Denial ‘newsroom’ profiling the work of The Salvation Army in these countries, help the children get to know these nations and how they can raise money to support these projects.

In Week 3 of Self Denial, we are off to Indonesia, where The Salvation Army Booth Children’s Home is caring for kids. Some children who don’t have parents or someone to look after them come to live at this home for girls. Here, they can go to school, learn about God and be supported by the staff.

In this video, we meet Riatun. After her mother died, she came to live at this Salvation Army children’s home. She has since trained as a teacher and is now the lead social worker in Indonesia. Riatun also works to help the children reconnect with their families in what we call the Safe Pathways program.
