The Way | Session 3 with Reverend Dr Arseny Ermakov
This Session 3 video with Reverend Dr Arseny Ermakov, is to be used on Saturday 14 February, 2026 to launch The Way - a two-day territory-wide experience, featuring worship, a keynote speaker and electives designed to equip and inspire our people.
In this session, Reverend Dr Arseny Ermakov unpacks the Christ hymn through the story of Andronicus, who witnesses the grandeur of Nero’s rise to power and reflects on the stark contrast with the humility of Jesus. The teaching highlights how Christ’s descent from glory to servanthood—and His resurrection—shapes the way early Christians were called to live. Arseny shows how Paul uses this hymn to teach the Philippians a radical model of discipleship: self-giving love, humility, and service in a world obsessed with status.
Through the examples of Andronicus and Junia, we see how believers can embody Christ’s story, demonstrating that true greatness is found in sacrificial service. Reverend Dr Arseny Ermakov is a Senior Lecturer at The Salvation Army’s Eva Burrows College.
